Preparation and Usage
Oven bake 50-70 mins. Wash the potatoes, dry and prick several times with a fork. For a crisp skin leave uncovered, for a soft skin wrap in aluminium foil. Bake in a pre-heated oven at Gas Mark 6/200°C Fan 190°C for 50-70 minutes or until tender. Turn over halfway through cooking. Roast 60-70 mins. Peel the potatoes and cut into even pieces. Place in a saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring to the boil and simmer for 8-10 minutes. Whilst the potatoes are cooking, place a roasting tin with 3 tablespoons (50ml) of sunflower oil into a preheated oven at Gas Mark 6/200°C/Fan 190°C. Drain the potatoes, place the lid back onto the saucepan, then holding the lid, shake the saucepan vigorously in order to roughen the cooked edges of the potatoes. Remove the roasting tin from the oven and carefully add the potatoes to the hot oil. Return to the top shelf of oven and roast for 60-70 minutes, turning once during roasting. Deep fry 6-7 mins. Peel the potatoes and cut into chips. Rinse under running water in order to remove excess starch and then dry. Fry in hot oil 180°C for 6-7 minutes until golden in colour. Remove from fryer, drain on absorbent paper and serve. Always ensure that the food is cooked throughout before serving. Roasting Cook products to a golden yellow colour, ensuring products are turned halfway through cooking, the cooking time may need to be reduced to avoid excessive browning of the product. Always avoid overcooking the product. Appliances vary, these are guidelines only. Advice Always wash work surfaces, cutting boards, utensils and hands before and after preparing food and after disposal of packaging. Wash fruit and vegetables before use. Top Tips Thinly slice leftover boiled potatoes and add to omelettes. Freeze leftover mashed potato in bags and use it for bubble and squeak or shepherds pie topping. Keep hold of potato peelings, sprinkle with salt, pepper, chilli or whatever flavour takes your fancy and pop them in the oven. Free crisps the children will love.
Storage
At home best kept in the fridge 2-5°C Store in the fridge at 2-5°C to keep fresh for weeks longer. If it still looks good enough to eat, it is!
