Château de la Ligne is one of the latter-day Winegeese wines that have Irish origins. The term Winegeese has arisen out of the stories of the Wild Geese or Irish who left Ireland in the 17th century and ended up in the wine trade around the world, but most particularly in Bordeaux. The Château dates back to 1147 when Eleanor of Aquitaine granted a charter for it to be built as a monastery literally on 'the line' of the pilgrims to Compostella. Ulsterman, Terry Cross purchased Château de la Ligne on St. Patrick's Day 2000 and set in motion the renaissance of this Noble wine.
