Brand Marketing

In June 1904, George Cadbury and his team of confectioners created a chocolate containing a ‘far higher milk content than previously known’ to challenge the Swiss domination of the chocolate market. After names such as ‘Highland Milk’ and ‘Dairy Maid’ were considered, Cadbury Dairy Milk (CDM) was launched in 1905 and became an instant success. Over 100 years later and the recipe is relatively unchanged and is kept under lock and key in a safe within Bournville. Cadbury introduced its famous ‘Glass and a half of full cream milk in every half pound’ slogan in 1928, but the world-famous symbol was only used in advertising. It would be another half-a-century before the design was used on packaging.

Manufacturer Marketing

At Cadbury, all Cocoa is sourced in a sustainable manner. This is underpinned by the Cadbury Cocoa Partnership and the Fairtrade Mark. Guaranteeing a long term, sustainable cocoa yield is vital to the company’s success and it has to be produced to the high quality and ethical standards expected by our business, the retailers who sell our product and the consumers who eat it. The Cadbury Cocoa Partnership is a truly groundbreaking investment, aiming to help secure the economic, social and environmental sustainability of around one million cocoa farmers and their communities. Fairtrade Cadbury Dairy Milk has been available in the UK and Ireland since July 2009, and the hot beverages range in the UK and Ireland will be Fairtrade by the end of 2010. Fairtrade Cadbury Dairy Milk is also now available in Australia and New Zealand and soon to be in Canada. In total, 350 million Cadbury Dairy Milk bars will carry the Fairtrade Mark each year around the world. The move has quadrupled the amount of Fairtrade cocoa coming out of Ghana, compared with 2008, and will benefit more than 40,000 farmers. All ingredients that can be Fairtrade are Fairtrade. Contains at least 70% certified Fairtrade ingredients. The Fairtrade label is your independent guarantee that this product meets international Fairtrade standards. Fairtrade enables farmers and workers in developing countries to improve their working and living conditions and make a better living through fair prices, community development and environmental stewardship. www.fairtrade.org.uk The Cadbury Foundation, set up in 1935, is a corporate foundation working under charity commission guidelines, now funded by Kraft Foods. It supports communities where our colleagues work and where we have offices and factories in the UK and Africa. The Foundation believes, as the Cadbury Brothers did all those years ago, that making a positive difference in our local community is not only good news for the community but also good for business.
